Current Position: Intermediate Apprentice in Carpentry with Cornwall Community Action Network, a social enterprise company that helps young people get started in work, build their skills, and move on to further employment.
Types of Employment/Apprenticeship I'm looking for, and what I hope to get from it:
Site Carpentry. I am interested in Construction and looking to continue my Apprenticeship with an employer who can give me a wide range of experience to complement my qualifications. I am hoping to then continue as a Site Carpenter and progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
What I can offer an employer:
I have good time keeping and a good attendance record. I am reliable, enthusiastic and well motivated.
Skills and abilities (what I've learnt, what I can do):
I have hung an internal door and have set the butts in both door and frame. I have since worked on a variety of projects including renewing a polycarbonate roof, including all the flashings. It was a challenging experience and we all worked well as a team. I have also been producing studwork, fixing plasterboard and using hand and power tools. I have learned how to maintain tools and sharpen chisels and feel confident in taking measurements. I have been fixing joists and helped plasterboard a ceiling as well as fixing flooring sheets (as shown in photograph).
General Employment Skills (attitude, commitment, personal qualities, timekeeping, reliability etc.):
I have worked in a public environment at the Market Place in Camborne and always maintain a clean and safe environment. I have demonstrated good personal skills and communication skills, working within the team and with the general public.
Work Experience (any work done, employment, projects/training, voluntary work, where):
I have had work experience with BTCV, helping to clear undergrowth and flattening paths and helping with re-graveling. I also built some steps for the path to aid access. My work also included designing a herb garden and an allotment.
Qualifications, Units & Certificates achieved:
Soon to achieve key skills level 1 and have completed two units of my diploma:
CC1001K Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction;
CC2002K Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others;
CC2003K Knowledge of building methods and construction technology.
